Little Savannah Restaurant and Bar is a unique Southern Bistro located in the heart of Forest Park Village where locals and travelers alike enjoy our distinctive hospitality daily. From fresh locally-grown Alabama produce to one-of-a-kind cocktails, Little Savannah has made its mark as one of Birmingham”s finest restaurants. Enjoy supper in one of the quaint dining rooms or pull up a chair at the bar and spend some time with the locals. In warm weather months, dine out back on the wooden deck beside Maureen’s back of the house garden. She grows berries, herbs, and even has a concord grape vine. Meat and produce from farmers stretching across Alabama help “keep it local,” along with fresh, seasonal libations and work from featured local artists hanging on the walls. The dinner menu changes daily to highlight the freshest local ingredients and the award-winning wine list compliments each dish.

The Owners

Clif Holt
Chef Clifton Holt is the Principal Chef and Proprietor of Little Savannah Restaurant & Bar in Birmingham, Alabama. Alongside his wife and partner, Maureen. The Holts bring many years of culinary and restaurant experience to the dinner table. Shortly after saying “I Do” in the South of France, the Holts opened in Birmingham’s Historic Forest Park neighborhood in the fall of 2003. Upon arrival, Maureen will greet you at the door and guide you through a memorable taste of southernness and hospitality while Clif is focused on the nightly offerings of his ‘Indigenous Southern Cookery.’ Clif’s ‘keep it local’ belief, which emphasizes the best local ingredients balanced with a minimalist’s hands, is evident in every aspect of their business. From the vittles to the ever-changing local artwork on the dining room walls, the cocktail extracts and infusions that are all made in house, from the farmers to the dishwasher, people are the focus here. The Holts value and respect the participants and recipients of their continued efforts and welcome your visit anytime.

Maureen Holt
You’ll find a warm welcome at Little Savannah’s Restaurant and Bar from Maureen Holt’s intimate restaurant in historic Forest Park. At 15, she was determined to get through school and have her own business. Throughout the years becoming experienced in all facets of running the Front of the House, in 2003, she and her husband opened Little Savannah. The continuation of her Southern roots are maintained not only in the cookery of the restaurant, (with the help of co-owner and chef husband) but in her culinary cocktails expressing the continuity of indegenous ingredients and Southern tradition.

Maureen trained as a Maitre D’ at Bottega Restaurant sharing her yen for top-notch service, however she found her herself wanting to provide a little slower paced feel, an unpretentious approach of southern hospitality. When she is not in the restaurant, you will find her digging in the dirt out back, alongside a fertile kitchen-garden, riding her Harley alongside her husband Clif, or taking time out with her daughter to visit their famers. ‘Knowing where your food comes from is most important in cultivating a culture, a future, and a past’.

Maureen has been on the Board of the Birmingham Originals for 6 years.

Farm-to-Table Founders
Clif Holt, chef and co-owner of Little Savannah in Forest Park, wasn’t always an advocate for the farm-to-table movement. He worked in engineering and architectural design for years before opening a restaurant with his wife, Maureen, and even when he worked at Highlands Bar and Grill under Frank Stitt, he admits he took for granted the idea that fresh produce was sourced locally. Several foundational elements were already in place, however, to build Clif into the passionate supporter of farms and fresh, seasonal, local eating that he is today. Read more >
